Introducing… THE HOMEMADE TABLE

What you will find in The Homemade Table
The Homemade Table is a book of two parts, the first section contains seasonal recipes focusing on fresh produce. Chapters include; Breakfasts, Vegetables & Soups, Dinner, and Baking & Desserts. These are my favourite recipes I make for my family and friends throughout the year.
In the second part of the book, I share my extensive knowledge and recipes for making homemade staples such as sourdough bread, preserves, ferments, and dairy products. In these chapters, I share my ‘master recipes’ for sourdough bread, multi-purpose dough, pickles, and sauerkraut, with multiple variations for each. These staples form the backbone of my kitchen. Drawing on 20 years of experience teaching cooking, my aim is to simplify these more complex techniques for the home kitchen.
The Homemade Table is a complete guide to home cooking, one that you can return to again and again for planning meals, or to master a new cooking technique. My signature detailed recipes include many variations and, where possible, include substitutions for gluten and dairy-free options. Along with troubleshooting for sourdough bread, preserves, and ferments from the most frequent questions asked at my cooking workshops. The book concludes with a detailed chapter on stocking the pantry and staple recipes such as cooking legumes and homemade gluten-free flour mix.
The Homemade Table is an all-in-one cookbook.
*I have comprehensively photographed each recipe, and where helpful included step-by-step images as can be seen below.
A few extras to accompany the book:
- Three bonus sourdough recipes using the ‘master recipes’ as a base. More details and download the pdf here.
- I have created a series of short videos of shaping and baking the Rustic Sourdough Bread here.
- Purchase my favourite Lined Bannetons (bread-rising baskets) – available in two different shapes.
- After many requests, I have my Fresh Sourdough Starter available to purchase. I only send this out in the cooler months so it is healthy and vibrant when it arrives at your home.
*The Homemade Table was shortlisted for the 2023 NZ Booklovers Awards – Best Lifestyle Book. I shared more about this on Instagram and Facebook.

Always authentic, always inspiring, I know that Nicola’s recipes in The Homemade Table are tried and true and most importantly give some much-needed advice and great tips on sourdough and preserves we can all make at home.

I have been eagerly awaiting this brilliant new book from one of my favourite NZ food writers. Nicola Galloway is proving to be one of our most honest and dedicated cooks, and it’s truly exciting to be able to savour so many of the delights she makes for her kitchen table. If you only buy one cookbook this year, this is it.
