A question I am asked often is, ‘When is your next cookbook coming out?’ The simple answer – is not for a while, although it is happening (UPDATE: my new cookbook Homegrown Kitchen: Everyday Recipes for Eating Well was released in April 2017). With two young children, my time is pretty limited. Plus the kind of books I write are a little different than your average cookbooks which are often more cosy on the bookshelf than open on the kitchen bench. I tend to write books that are bursting at the seams with information, that are used and referred to often. Those of you reading this who own a copy of Feeding Little Tummies will know what I am talking about here. It is full of kitchen tips and nutrition information, and of course recipes. I am planning to repeat this theme for my next book, so it will take time. Plus I will style and photograph all the recipes myself this time. This is a huge task.
So, in the meantime, I wanted to create a small printed publication that was both beautiful and functional. I wanted a place to share some of the recipes I have been squirrelling away for a book. When a friend suggested – ‘what about a calendar?’ – it made perfect sense. It is something that is useful and will look awesome hanging on a kitchen wall. So a while back with the help of my sister Ana, we set to the task of perfecting the look, handpicking and photographing the recipes, finding a local printer, and adding the moon cycles and holidays (for New Zealand). And everything else involved in self-publishing.

Fast forward a few months, and my Homegrown Kitchen 2015 Calendar is here. Well, technically it is on the printing press a few kilometres away as I write this. But it is close, and I am so excited to share it with you. To launch the calendar we made a little stop-motion video…
A year of delicious recipes, from my kitchen to yours. I hope you enjoy cooking them as much as I do.
